WOD 1/10/09

Huh? What’s that you say? The last two days were ridiculously easy? OK, I’d hate to break the trend, so do this;

10 Strict Press (M:95/W:65)

1 Deadlift (M:225/W:155)

9 Press

2 Deadlifts

8 Press

3 Deadlifts

** Cont’d **

1 Press

10 Deadlifts

This isn’t a killer, but it’s not a walk in the park either. After the past two days of things being lifted up and put overhead, this is a nice way to say “I Love You” before walking out the door.

The presses are strict presses. No push press or jerks. If you are doing that, the weight is too heavy. You should be able to muscle out the presses – tough at first, but not impossible. Remember your good set up and press form.

Deadlifts are the typical “lift something really heavy off of the ground a bunch of times” thing. Use the proper set up and form. If your form is going to Hell in a handbasket about midway through, don’t be a crippled hero, drop a few pounds and soldier on.

Here’s a good video of Coach Mark Rippetoe coaching someone on the finer points of Press posture at the original CFHQ in Santa Cruz. Rip is great for some of the funniest, no BS quotes around,  and his incredible coaching in any aspect of training involving a barbell and strength. Rip also likes to pound people into the right position when training them – it’s pretty funny to watch his hands on style with people, but that’s why he’s as good as he is!

OK, get on it!
