CrossFit is an interesting thing in that we are continuously learning how to move and adapt the body to forms of movement and exercise that have real world adaptability. That being said, when was the last time we used the most primitive and organic of movements in our workouts? A return to the basic conceptual movements that tax the 10 General Physical Skills of Elite Fitness is needed from time to time. It’s different, it’s not as easy as you might think, and it’s fun. External loads and all the crazy movements in the world are great, but let’s not forget that if we find ourselves in a position of disadvantage and need to move in an unfamiliar manner, we better develop the neuromuscular motor pathways to do so. All the regular, bipedal, upright movement in the world might not always help when you need it. So, get down on the ground and learn to move on all fours and in compromised positions, just like the animals.
